Acne-Myth: Natural Skincare Products Are Better For You

Acne-Myth: Natural Skincare Products Are Better For You

Myth: Natural and organic skincare products mean that it’s better for you — right?

Busted!

Let’s be clear people: NATURAL DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN SAFE, EFFECTIVE OR BENEFICIAL.

Organic for food is not the same as organic for your skin care. Many people often confuse natural or organic for safe/non-toxic, and synthetic as harmful/toxic. This is false. Toxicity is not dependent on whether something is natural or synthetic in skincare. It has to do with ingredient itself. Don’t get fooled by fancy marketing.

When you eat organic, you actually benefit because it’s free from pesticides. But when it comes to organic skincare products, most molecules are too big (in their natural state) to penetrate the matrix of our skin. This means organic products sit on the outer most layer and cannot get to the deeper layers of the skin. That’s fine if all your skin issues are topical.

Synthetic ingredients are designed to penetrate that matrix and get down to where your issues are. That is why for deeper skin issues (acne, aging, pigmentation) the organic ingredients won’t be as effective (vs. synthetic) because they simply cannot get to where the problem is.

Always get professional advice before purchasing or creating (diy) products.
