Read on for our top five tips on how to beat “maskne” (our favorite term for mask breakouts), including the products we can’t live without.
1. Always ways wear a clean mask
Not only is wearing a clean mask every day recommended by public health guidance — it helps prevent breakouts! Any time you reuse a mask, you reintroduce acne-causing bacteria to your face. Cut down on that bacteria by swapping your mask out for a clean one at least every day. And, speaking of clean masks…
2. Check your laundry detergent
Does your detergent include skin-irritating ingredients like fragrances and dyes, or any of the other culprits on our pore-cloggers list? If so, try switching to a fragrance-free, dye-free alternative like Tide Free & Gentle.
3. Apply an acne-fighting cream before putting on your mask
Try applying our Oxygen or BP Cream (careful — it bleaches fabric!) before putting on your mask.
4. Avoid wearing makeup, SPF, or moisturizers under your mask
