2 Reasons Why Your Workout Causes Your Breakout

Acne-myth: Working-out causes me to break-out.

True!

Consider these 2 points before you sign-up for that hot yoga class.

First, when you start a new exercise program and you’re working out harder than before, there’s a change in hormones and you’ll break out from an increase in testosterone. It’s usually a short time and then your body adjusts.

Second, sweat clogs your pores. If you are waiting to wash your face or take a shower right after working out, you’ll experience more breakouts from your skin detoxing through sweat and being left on your skin.

So, does that mean you shouldn’t work-out…? No, we want you to be healthy and live your life. With proper care of your sensitive skin, you can stay clear with these acne-safe tips:

  1. Ladies, do not work out with makeup on! Make sure that your skin is clean before you workout. Otherwise, you’re just asking for clogged pores.
  2. As soon as you’re done working out, you need to wash your face with your facial cleanser. If you can’t, then bring a baggy of DIY Toner Pads with you when you workout. Once you’re done, wipe down your face immediately. This will help tremendously with post workout breakouts.

Pop quiz! Do you know what is acne mechanica?
Acne mechanica is acne that is caused by skin friction, heat, pressure on the skin, or when skin isn’t exposed to the air. Sweaty, constantly rubbed skin can quickly break out in a bothersome rash that’s really acne. For further reading, check out these blog posts:
