The Science Behind Expression Lines
The thinnest skin on our face is the skin surrounding our eyes. Not coincidentally, this area has the least amount of oil glands, which is why we often notice “expression lines” around the eye area first. Most of the time, the lines we see in this area are not true wrinkles, but rather a sign of dehydration!
When we make an expression (smiling for instance) our skin creases. If the skin doesn’t have enough hydration/topical water, it sticks rather than bouncing back and looks like a line….which is where the term expression line comes from.
As we mature, our skin’s ability to hold on to water decreases, so these expression lines become increasingly common. Adding in an eye cream/serum can be a fantastic way to quench and restore hydration for the area.

- After cleansing and toning, apply pin-sized amount to the pad of your ring finger
- Disperse between the pads of your two ring fingers (you’ll notice it’s sticky)
- Gently pat into under eye area and under brow area, but do not go past the “eye bone”
- Apply any night time serums your Acne Specialists may have recommended
Note: BP MUST BE KEPT AT LEAST ONE INCH FROM EYE SERUM! This means that you must leave an inch from where BP ends and eye serum begins. If they touch, BP can travel to your eye. And that does not feel good. At all. Seriously.
